FAQ's

Why didn’t the unclaimed property office contact me directly?
There are billions of dollars in unclaimed property in the U.S., and the offices holding these funds are understaffed. With thousands of new claims added every week, these offices simply don’t have the resources to reach out to every potential claimant. They also have no extra incentive to find you—paying the same amount regardless of the number of people they locate. In contrast, we only get paid if we successfully recover your funds. This gives us a strong incentive to actively search for claimants and reach out to you directly.

How successful is Unclaimed Property Locators at recovering funds for claimants?
Before contacting you, we conduct thorough research to verify the rightful owner of the unclaimed property. We wouldn’t reach out unless we were highly confident that you are entitled to these funds. Our track record of success is built on careful identification and verification, giving you a strong chance of recovering your money.

What if the original owner of the property is deceased?
If the original property owner has passed away, proof of ownership must still be established. This includes submitting documentation as specified on your claim form. In addition, you’ll need to provide a certified death certificate for the deceased owner, along with identification and signed claim forms from all heirs or the personal representative if the estate is still open. Additional documentation may be required depending on the specific circumstances of the case.

What type of ID is acceptable?
Most unclaimed property offices require a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license. If your current address differs from the one on file, you’ll need to provide proof of your previous address. If the account has multiple owners, and one is deceased, you'll also need to provide a certified death certificate for the deceased owner, along with ID for the claimant.

How long does it take to receive my funds?
The timeline for receiving your money depends on the department holding your funds. Some claims may be paid within two weeks, while others can take 90 days or more. Processing time varies based on the type of claim and whether additional documentation is required. To avoid delays, it’s essential to submit all requested paperwork accurately. Missing documents can push your claim to the back of the queue. Unclaimed Property Locators helps ensure you have everything needed to speed up the process.

How confident are you that the money belongs to me?
If you’ve received a letter from us, we are confident that the money likely belongs to you. While we cannot always guarantee 100% certainty, we’ve conducted extensive research and believe there’s a strong case for your entitlement to the funds. You have nothing to lose by finding out, and we’re here to help.

What are your fees?
We work on a contingency fee basis, which means we only get paid a percentage of the amount you recover, and only after you’ve received your funds. There are no upfront fees—*no results, no fee*. It’s a risk-free arrangement for you, making it a win-win situation!
